Air Whitsunday Seaplanes
Air Whitsunday Seaplanes is a Shute Harbour / Whitsunday Airport
based operation providing a range of charter, reef tours, scenic flights and passenger transfers to nearby locations including Hamilton Island, Hayman Island and many natural wonders on the Great Barrier Reef.
Of interest, one of the
natural wonders regularly visited or over-flown by Air Whitsunday is Heart Reef, a coral cay shaped like a heart that was ironically discovered in 1975 by an Air Whitsunday pilot.
Since commencing operations in 1973, the focus at Air
Whitsunday has always been to provide an unsurpassed seaplane service to the region, and having been voted 'Best Tour and Transport Operator' at the Whitsunday Tourism Awards for the past two consecutive years, and awarded finalists in the same category at
the Queensland Tourism Awards in 2011, obviously remains a company priority to this very day.
At present, Air Whitsunday operates a modest fleet of three de Havilland DHC-2 Beavers and two Cessna 208FP Caravan's.

Meanwhile, it is reported the de Havilland Beavers are configured to carry six passengers (and a pilot), have the ability to cruise at 95 knots, and fly a distance of up to 625nm. Height on land is 4.3 meters.
